Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with clients who are 25 years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, based on your needs, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurer to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Are your roof top tent camping trucks kids friendly?
Indeed! Please note that with our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we provide an extra tent with each of our packages which you can put up on the ground. This could be more suitable for you and your little ones.
What is the max. capacity of your camping vehicles?
We are able to accommodate three people maximum, although in case there are more in your group, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate as much as five individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Do you offer surfboards?
Yes, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Just let us know in advance if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide book or perhaps a map with the greatest areas to check out on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the greatest locations to see & go camping on Kauai.
Greatest Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Details About Tenting Permits
Am I able to head to any beach for camping?
You can drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We will give you a list of the ideal destinations to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or can we just go to official tenting grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild tenting isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in specified spots with a current tenting permit. The associated fee is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private camp sites could be a little more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you have total access to facilities, including showers, washrooms & picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you opt to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai tenting permit?
It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai tenting permits prior to your trip. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night beforehand. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are bank checks as well as money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting tenting permits?
No matter whether you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given on-the-spot.
